Solo Safari (Taman Safari Solo) is a zoo in Surakarta, Indonesia. The zoo officially opened in early 2023 as a revitalized version of the former Taru Jurug Zoo. Situated in the heart of Surakarta, Solo Safari spans 13.9 hectares and is designed as a walk-through safari that promotes conservation and education. The zoo is home to over 90 species and approximately 400 individual animals, including birds, mammals, elephants, binturongs, camels, anoas, palm civets, wallabies, sun bears, tapirs, orangutans, and more.
What makes Solo Safari unique is its immersive experience—visitors don’t just observe animals from afar, they get to walk through landscaped habitats, interact with certain species, and enjoy spectacular shows throughout the day. There are many exciting activities at Solo Safari, such as interacting with cute animals in the Petting Zoo zone, Savannah Zipline, go-karting, dino ride, paint & brush, Jeep Adventure, and animal riding. Taman Safari Solo also provides free shuttle buses and buggy cars, making it easier for visitors to get around.
Visitors usually spend 3–5 hours exploring everything the park has to offer, from wildlife exhibits to exciting entertainment and dining. Whether you're seeking adventure, learning experiences, or a relaxing stroll among nature, Solo Safari is absolutely worth the visit. Perfect for families, groups of friends, couples, school field trips, and especially young children.
Animal Interactions & Walk‑In Safari
Based on the Solo Safari map, the zoo is divided into several themed zones where visitors can explore a wide range of animal collections. The Asian Panorama features native Asian wildlife such as sun bears, banteng, Bawean deer, tapirs, and cassowaries. In the Komodo Zone, guests can observe Komodo dragons, green iguanas, pythons, and large African tortoises. Other notable zones include Primate Island, home to orangutans, siamangs, langurs, rabbits, and ducks; the Aviary, showcasing cockatoos, mynas, peacocks, and Javan hawks; the Jungle River, which houses hippos, crocodiles, otters, and pygmy hippos; and the African Savannah, where visitors can see zebras, elands, wildebeests, sitatungas, and camels.
Petting Zoo & Pony Ride
Children and families can enjoy up-close encounters with gentle animals such as rabbits, pygmy goats, Sumbawa ponies, and tortoises. It’s a delightful space for feeding, petting, and bonding with these friendly creatures.
Savannah Zipline
Glide high above the African-themed savannah zone on a 100-meter zipline—an exhilarating and scenic ride that’s perfect for thrill-seekers and older children.
Gokart Track
Race along a lively, family-friendly go-kart course designed for both kids and adults. It’s a fun way to inject speed and excitement into your visit.
Dino Ride
Let your little adventurers hop on dino-themed rides that combine prehistoric fun with child-safe entertainment. It’s a playful and imaginative attraction for young kids.
Jeep Adventure
Take control of a mini 4x4 and explore bumpy, off-road terrain. This adventurous ride is great for teens and families looking to experience the wild side of the zoo.
Rideable Animals
You can also find rideable animals. You’ll have the chance to ride horses, elephants, or take a Camel Ride on both Bactrian and Dromedary camels, among others. Visitors will be guided on a tour around the Solo Safari area while enjoying these unique experiences.
Paint & Brush Studio
Spark your child’s creativity in this interactive art corner, where they can paint animal-themed crafts while enjoying a relaxing view of the surrounding wildlife.

Solo Safari offers two distinctive dining experiences: Makunde Bistro and Bengawan Resto. Both provide delicious meals in unique settings that elevate your visit beyond just wildlife exploration.
Makunde Bistro offers a one-of-a-kind dining experience with a direct view into the lion enclosure. Guests can enjoy their meals while observing the majestic lions up close in their naturalistic habitat. A special program called Makunde Senja is also available—an evening buffet package featuring cultural performances such as traditional music and dance, set against the scenic backdrop of animals like lions, meerkats, and bobcats.
Located beside a tranquil lake within the zoo, Bengawan Resto features a rustic "saung"-style structure that creates a cozy, nature-inspired atmosphere. The menu focuses on fresh seafood and authentic Indonesian cuisine. Visitors can also enjoy a live cooking experience, selecting fresh fish to be prepared on the spot by the restaurant’s chefs.
The best time to visit Solo Safari Zoo is during the dry season between May and September when the weather is sunny and comfortable for walking outdoors. Weekdays are less crowded compared to weekends and public holidays, offering a more relaxed experience. Early mornings are ideal to see animals at their most active and to avoid the midday heat.
Try to avoid rainy season months (November to March) as heavy showers can affect outdoor attractions and parades. Arriving by 9:00 AM ensures you catch the full range of shows and feeding sessions.
